1. Our Privacy Commitment
Boddle Learning is committed to protecting student data so parents and teachers can have peace of mind when using Boddle at school or home.
Important Clarifications:
- We never sell, trade, or lease student personal information.
- We only collect the minimum information needed for students to play and learn.
- Student progress can be overseen by teachers or parents - never open to the public.
- We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- For the avoidance of doubt, we never sell personal data from our service and we do not share data with third parties for their own marketing, advertising purposes, or creating advertising profiles.
- Authorized individuals have the right to access, update, rectify, or delete the information we have on a student.
- We may contact teachers and administrators directly to market and promote our services; however, we will never use student records for this purpose. You can stop receiving promotional email communications from us by clicking “unsubscribe” in such communications or contacting us directly. We make every effort to promptly process all unsubscribe requests.
2. Information We Collect from Students
We collect only the information needed to provide the Boddle game and related educational services. This includes:
- First name and last initial
- Grade level
- Gameplay progress and performance data (e.g., questions answered, skills practiced, and time spent)
- Login credentials (username and password)
- Device information such as browser type and IP address, used only for security and internal operations
Visible Data:
Student profiles are never public. Only authorized parents and teachers linked to the student account may view progress and activity reports.
Avatars and Usernames:
Students select an avatar and display name. These identifiers do not reveal personal information and are the only identifiers visible to other students in the game
3. How We Use Student Information
We use student information only for educational purposes, including:
- Delivering and improving the Boddle game
- Measuring progress and providing reports to linked parents and teachers
- Personalizing the game to each student’s learning needs
- Maintaining account security and preventing misuse
- Meeting legal and safety requirements
We do not collect or process student information to build advertising profiles, track students across the internet, or show targeted ads.
4. Children’s Privacy and Safe Interactions
We are committed to protecting the privacy and safety of children under the age of 13.
Safe interactions:
- Students may connect with friends through secure codes to play together.
- No open chat, direct messaging, or public posting is allowed.
- Teachers and parents can manage and oversee student accounts.
Unsafe Interactions:
- Boddle prohibits sharing of personal contact information.
- Students cannot connect with unverified or unknown users.
Parental Consent:
- When we provide services on behalf of a school, Boddle Learning acts as a data processor and, under FERPA, as a "school official." The school provides consent for us to collect and process information from students under the age of 13, as permitted by theChildren's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect, maintain, use, and share student records only for authorized educational purposes
If we learn we have collected information beyond what is permitted (such as a child’s full name or contact details), we will delete it promptly.
Parents may contact us at contact@boddlelearning.com to review, correct, or request deletion of their child’s information
5. Device Data and Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies only to:
- Enable login and gameplay features
- Save progress and settings
- Improve performance and security
We do not use cookies for personalized advertising or allow third-party advertisers to collect data from student accounts.
6. When We Share Information
We do not sell student information. We may share limited information only:
- With parents and teachers linked to the student’s account
- With vetted, trusted service providers under contract who help us operate the game (they are contractually prohibited from using student data for their own purposes)
- As required by law, such as in response to a court order
- If necessary to protect safety or prevent illegal activity
- In conjunction with a prospective purchase, sale, or merger of all or part of our business, provided that we take appropriate precautions (for example, through a written confidentiality agreement) so the prospective purchaser or merger partner does not disclose information obtained in the course of the review.
We may also use aggregated or de-identified data (which cannot identify an individual student) to improve Boddle’s services
7. Data Security and Retention
- We adhere to industry standard security protocols.
- All student data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access to student information is limited to authorized staff who need it to support the platform.
- We conduct regular staff training regarding data protection and student data privacy requirements.
- We undertake regular security reviews and assessments.
- We retain data only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law. Accounts may be deleted after extended inactivity.
- If you believe your child’s data has been compromised, contact us immediately at contact@boddlelearning.com.
In the event of a confirmed or suspected data breach, we will notify the appropriate educational authority or parent/guardian within 48 hours, consistent with legal requirements
8. User Deletion
Parents may request that we delete personal information we have collected about you and your child and for us to direct service providers to do the same. This right may come with certain exceptions based on your state of residency and the laws applicable to that jurisdiction. Note that you may also delete certain Personal Information you have provided to us through your online account.
When processing a request to delete, we may erase some information and we may de-identify some information (when we de-identify information, we implement technical safeguards and business processes that prohibit re-identification, business processes to prevent inadvertent release of de-identified information, and will make no attempt to re-identify the information).
If you would like to request that we delete your information, please contact us at this email address contact@boddlelearning.com and include “Parent Deletion Request” in the subject line and provide your email address and state the nature of your request. If you believe a given privacy or data protection law applies to your request, please include a reference to said law in the body of your email.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Minor updates will be posted on our website with the revised “Last Updated” date. If we make significant changes affecting student data, we will notify parents, teachers, or schools in advance.
